Sell Your RV in Alabama With a Purchase Review

Tell us where your Alabama RV is parked and what condition it’s in to request a purchase review.

Buying RVs Since 2009   •   No Obligation to Accept an Offer   •   Free Towing With an Agreed Purchase

Describe the condition of the vehicle.

Before You Sell an RV in Alabama, Identify the Real Obstacle

An RV does not have to be ready for another vacation to be worth discussing with a buyer. Some owners want to sell a coach they no longer use. Others have a trailer that needs repairs, occupies a paid storage space, or has been sitting on family property for years.

Before deciding what to do with yours, separate three questions: whether it could be purchased, whether you have the documents needed to sell it, and whether it can leave its current location safely.

RVRemovalUSA considers motorhomes, travel trailers, fifth wheels, camper vans, and other supported RVs for purchase from owners in Alabama. Dealerships can also submit inquiries. The decision depends on the particular vehicle and circumstances rather than a published list of automatic approvals.

Selling an RV Is Different From Paying to Dispose of It

A purchase means a buyer agrees to acquire the RV on mutually accepted terms. Disposal means arranging to have a vehicle hauled away, dismantled, recycled, or otherwise handled when a sale is not possible or desired.

RVRemovalUSA evaluates RVs for possible purchase. We do not promise standalone removal just because a request is submitted.

If an offer is made, you can review it and decide whether to proceed. Free towing is included when a purchase is agreed upon, with appropriate transport arrangements coordinated for the vehicle.

Before another storage bill comes due: If your RV is on a rented lot or campground site, check your existing obligations independently of the inquiry. A possible sale does not automatically cancel storage charges, authorize release from the property, or establish a pickup date.

You can request an RV purchase review without first committing to sell.

What Alabama RV Owners Should Gather for a Purchase Review

You do not need to restore an RV to showroom condition before asking whether it might be purchased. More useful than a polished sales description is an accurate account of what you have, what you know about its condition, and where it is parked.

Start with these details:

  • Identify the RV: Provide its year, make, model, and type. If available, check the vehicle identification number (VIN) against the title or other ownership record. A motorhome may have separate chassis and coach identification information, so use the number shown on the relevant vehicle record when discussing ownership.
  • Describe the actual condition: Mention roof leaks, soft floors, collision damage, storm-related problems, missing equipment, or known electrical and plumbing failures. For a motorhome, include mileage and whether the engine starts.
  • Explain its recent use: State whether it was driven or towed recently or has been parked for an extended period. If you do not know whether the brakes, tires, or drivetrain are safe, do not guess.
  • Give the parking ZIP Code: Use the location of the RV, not necessarily your home address. You might live in Huntsville but keep a camper on recreational property near Lake Guntersville.
  • Describe access to the property: Note gates, narrow entrances, soft ground, steep approaches, low branches, or vehicles blocking the exit. Identify any storage or campground operator who must authorize release.
  • Check ownership and financing: Tell us which documents you have, whose names appear on them, and whether a lender still has an interest in the RV.

If the vehicle’s identification or ownership history is unclear, say so during the inquiry. A description of the problem is useful, but it does not by itself establish that ownership can be transferred.

An Alabama detail worth checking before you assume the title is missing: Alabama applies different age thresholds to motor vehicles and certain recreational trailers. The Alabama Department of Revenue generally requires a certificate of title for a qualifying motor vehicle not more than 35 model years old. Travel trailers and folding or collapsible camping trailers generally fall under a 20-model-year title threshold.

Alabama also publishes specific trailer exemptions and classifications. An older camper without an Alabama title is therefore not necessarily in the same situation as a newer motorhome whose issued title has been lost. The right starting point is the vehicle’s classification and existing ownership record, not whether someone casually calls it a camper. Read the Alabama Department of Revenue’s title requirements.

Do not place Social Security numbers, financial account information, identity documents, or gate access codes in an open inquiry message. You can request an individual RV review using the basic details you know.

Motorhomes, Campers, and Towable RVs Considered in Alabama

RV type matters because a vehicle’s living accommodations, mechanical condition, and movement requirements contribute different information to a purchase review.

Class A, Class B, and Class C Motorhomes

Class A coaches, Class B camper vans, and Class C motorhomes can be submitted for consideration. A useful description includes the motorhome’s mileage, engine and transmission condition, known warning lights, and whether it starts and can be driven. Also describe the roof, interior, appliances, generator, heating and cooling equipment, and any known water damage. A coach with a working drivetrain and damaged interior presents a different situation from one with a well-kept living area and a failed engine. Neither description alone establishes whether a purchase is possible. If the motorhome does not run, explain whether it can still roll, steer, and brake. Do not attempt to move it unsafely to prepare for an inquiry.

Travel Trailers and Fifth Wheels

For a travel trailer, describe the coupler, tires, wheels, brakes, axles, and frame where those details are known. For a fifth wheel, identify any problem with the kingpin, landing gear, suspension, or access for a suitable towing vehicle. Approximate length and whether the trailer is level and securely supported may also help. The condition of the living area matters as well. Roof deterioration, water intrusion, slide-out failures, damaged flooring, and missing appliances should be disclosed. Remember that the type of hitch does not, by itself, settle Alabama title requirements. Check the actual classification and ownership record.

Toy Haulers, Truck Campers, and Other Supported RVs

Toy haulers may have issues that ordinary travel trailers do not, including garage-floor damage, ramp-door problems, or alterations to the cargo area. For a truck camper, explain whether it is mounted on a pickup or standing separately. If it is off the truck, note whether its jacks and support equipment are present and whether it can be accessed safely. Other supported recreational vehicles can also be submitted. A dealership may inquire about a vehicle or multiple units, although any proposed transaction would require its own review. Submitting a particular RV type does not guarantee an offer.

When Your Alabama RV Cannot Be Driven or Easily Towed

Two RVs with similar interiors may require very different arrangements to leave their parking spaces.

Consider a motorhome whose engine runs but whose brakes have seized after years without use. Compare it with a fifth wheel that has functioning equipment inside but damaged tires and landing gear. Both might warrant a purchase discussion, yet neither should be treated as ready for ordinary transportation without assessing its condition.

Check Movement Before Assuming the RV Can Be Collected

For a motorhome, the important questions include whether it starts, rolls, steers, and brakes. Flat tires, a locked drivetrain, or missing wheels may affect the options available.

For a travel trailer or fifth wheel, describe the condition of the hitch or kingpin, wheels, axles, brakes, support jacks, and landing gear. Tell us about any missing or damaged parts.

Describe the Exit, Not Just the Parking Spot

A large RV may sit comfortably on a pad but still be difficult to remove.

A driveway with a narrow gate, a culvert at the entrance, low tree limbs, or limited turning room may require additional planning. If the ground is soft or the approach crosses a steep slope, mention that before transport arrangements are discussed.

For an RV in a storage facility, campground, repair yard, or another person’s property, find out who has authority to release it. Outstanding charges or access restrictions may need to be resolved separately.

Rural property considerations: An RV stored on grass or dirt outside a town such as Troy or Demopolis may have a straightforward-looking location on a map but limited access for heavy equipment.

Explain the surface condition, route to a usable road, and any obstructions. You do not need to attempt repairs or arrange your own towing merely to request a purchase review.

A feasible, lawful movement plan must be established if a purchase proceeds. Free towing is included with an agreed purchase, not with the inquiry alone.

How Your Alabama RV’s Parking Location Affects the Review

Alabama RV owners can submit purchase inquiries from around the state. What changes from one location to another is often the information needed about the property and the vehicle’s history.

The following regional examples are practical preparation guidance, not claims of RVRemovalUSA facilities or guaranteed collection service in particular communities.

North Alabama: Lake Property, Hills, and Stored Campers

Around Huntsville, Decatur, Florence, and the Tennessee Valley, an RV may be kept at a residence, commercial storage facility, or recreational property near a lake. An owner who keeps a camper near Lake Guntersville should describe the actual parking area and approach. A sloping driveway, narrow private road, or gate may matter more than the distance to Huntsville. If a motorhome has remained outside through multiple seasons, report what you know about its tires, battery, moisture problems, and the last time it moved.

Central Alabama: Residential Space and Rural Access

Birmingham, Hoover, Tuscaloosa, Montgomery, and surrounding communities include very different types of parking locations. A large Class A motorhome beside a suburban home may present limited maneuvering space. A fifth wheel parked on rural land may instead raise questions about the entrance, ground stability, or whether the owner has equipment available to prepare it for movement. Describe the conditions at the exact site. An area name or ZIP Code alone cannot establish what equipment could reach the RV.

Mobile Bay, the Gulf Coast, and the Wiregrass

In Mobile and Baldwin counties, RVs may be parked at homes, private storage lots, campgrounds, or seasonal recreational properties. If your RV is near Gulf Shores, Foley, Daphne, Fairhope, or Orange Beach, disclose any known history of flooding, storm damage, roof leaks, or corrosion. Coastal location alone does not establish that any damage exists. Campground rules can also affect access. Before agreeing to a handoff, find out whether a manager must approve the release, whether outstanding fees remain, and whether the exit accommodates a large vehicle. Farther inland around Dothan and Enterprise, an RV kept on private property may require more attention to driveway surfaces, gates, and how long it has been stationary.

Wherever your RV is parked, provide its current Alabama ZIP Code and any information that would help explain its physical condition and access.

If your RV is in another state, see the nationwide RV buying locations.

From Alabama RV Inquiry to a Possible Purchase

Requesting an offer is not the same as completing a sale. The process moves from gathering facts to reviewing a possible proposal and, only if both sides agree, arranging the transfer.

1. Identify the RV and Its Current Location

Start with the year, make, model, contact information, and parking ZIP Code. Describe the condition you know about, including significant mechanical or structural damage. Mention any ownership issue or property-access restriction that may complicate a transaction.

2. Have the Information Reviewed

RVRemovalUSA considers the details to determine whether a purchase might be possible. The review could lead to additional questions, a request for photographs or documents through an appropriate channel, a proposed amount, or a decision not to make an offer. A submitted form does not provide an automatic appraisal, guarantee a response within a specific time, or establish that the vehicle qualifies for purchase.

3. Review Any Proposal and Decide Whether to Proceed

If an offer is discussed, make sure you understand the amount, any outstanding conditions, and what must happen before the transaction is complete. You may accept or decline a proposed offer. The original inquiry does not obligate you to sell. If both parties subsequently enter an actual purchase agreement, the agreement and applicable law govern the resulting obligations. An agreed purchase may require confirmation of owner signatures, lender documentation, payment arrangements, release of possession, and a lawful way to move the RV. Free towing is included with the agreed purchase. The specific transportation arrangements still depend on the RV and its location.

Alabama Ownership Documents and Handoff Checks

Alabama RV sellers should identify which documents apply before agreeing to transfer ownership.

The Alabama Department of Revenue, or ALDOR, provides the official guidance for the state’s title and registration requirements. Rules can vary according to vehicle type, age, ownership history, and the documents already issued.

1. Different RV Categories May Have Different Title Requirements

ALDOR states that qualifying motor vehicles not more than 35 model years old generally need an Alabama certificate of title when they are domiciled in the state and required to be registered there.

Travel trailers and folding or collapsible camping trailers generally have a 20-model-year threshold.

ALDOR also lists fifth-wheel campers among trailers titled in Alabama. Its exemption list separately identifies bumper-pull trailers. Because recreational vehicles are described in different ways by owners, manufacturers, and registration systems, do not assume that every trailer with a conventional hitch is treated identically.

A title exemption is not permission to sell something you cannot prove you own. For registration of a vehicle that does not require a title, ALDOR describes the need for acceptable ownership documentation and an identification inspection by the licensing official or deputy when applicable.

Motorhomes and trailers also have different registration classifications. Title status and registration are related but are not interchangeable. See vehicles required to be titled in Alabama and Alabama vehicle registration requirements.

2. Owner Signatures, Replacement Titles, and Liens Need Attention

Review the names shown on the certificate of title or other applicable ownership record.

ALDOR’s published signature rules distinguish co-owners whose names are connected by “and” from those connected by “or.” Where “and” is used, both owners generally must sign. Where “or” is used, one owner’s signature may be sufficient under the applicable rule. Its guidance also addresses records with no conjunction or with “and/or.” Check the actual record and applicable assignment requirements rather than assuming that any one person may sell an RV with multiple owners.

Alabama does not require the assignment of a certificate of title or manufacturer’s statement of origin to be notarized. Valid signatures and supporting documentation are still necessary.

If a required Alabama title is lost, the titled owner or recorded lienholder may request a replacement through ALDOR’s Public Title Portal or a designated agent. The agency currently publishes a $15 nonrefundable application fee.

A lender’s recorded interest must also be handled correctly. A paid-off loan does not necessarily mean every lien record has been cleared, and a missing released title may require separate lender documentation. See Alabama title signatures, title assignment notarization, the replacement title process, and lien-release requirements.

3. Alabama License Plates and Registration Are Separate Handoff Matters

ALDOR instructs the registrant to remove the license plate when a vehicle is sold or otherwise disposed of.

Do not assume that an existing Alabama plate should remain attached for the next owner. Depending on the circumstances, the registrant may be eligible to transfer the plate to another vehicle.

ALDOR also states that a person acquiring a new or used motor vehicle generally must obtain a license plate within 20 calendar days. Registration of a vehicle subject to the Alabama title law requires a title application before registration can be processed. The 20-day acquisition requirement concerns the new owner. It is not a universal 20-day seller notification rule.

Before completing a sale, confirm the ownership documents, agreed payment arrangements, handling of the plate, and release of the RV. Retain appropriate transaction records. See Alabama license plate instructions and new-owner registration rules.

4. Estates and Branded Titles May Require Additional Documents

When an RV owner has died, the person requesting a sale may need documentation showing authority to transfer the vehicle.

ALDOR explains that a probated estate requires appropriate probate court documents, such as letters testamentary or letters of administration. For a qualifying estate that has not and will not be probated, the agency identifies a Next of Kin Affidavit, MVT 5-6, and a death certificate.

The requirements depend on the estate and ownership record. Being a relative of the deceased owner does not, by itself, establish authority to sell the RV.

A salvage or rebuilt title raises separate concerns. Alabama has procedures for inspecting and documenting qualifying rebuilt vehicles. Do not assume that a salvage-title motorhome can simply be driven on public roads. Disclose any known title brand or insurance total-loss history during the inquiry.

See title procedures after an owner’s death and Alabama salvage and rebuilt vehicle guidance. These explanations are general preparation information. The official agency, applicable legal requirements, and actual ownership documents control the transaction.

Should You Sell Directly, List Privately, or Arrange Disposal?

Before choosing a selling route, decide what matters most: reaching individual buyers, managing the sale yourself, avoiding ongoing storage arrangements, or finding out whether a direct buyer is interested.

Direct RV Purchase

A direct purchase request may be a useful starting point when you want a buyer to consider the RV without first preparing public advertisements or scheduling viewings with multiple prospects. RVRemovalUSA reviews the vehicle information, but an inquiry does not guarantee an offer. Any proposed terms remain yours to accept or decline.

Private Sale or Consignment

A private sale allows you to set an asking price, communicate with potential buyers, and negotiate directly. It also makes you responsible for the listing, appointments, condition disclosures, payment arrangements, and ownership transfer.

Consignment may move some marketing work to a dealer or broker. Before agreeing, examine the commission structure, storage responsibilities, insurance terms, and what happens if the RV does not sell. These terms vary by provider.

Donation or Standalone Disposal

An RV donation may be possible when a qualified organization is willing and able to accept the vehicle. Check acceptance criteria and transfer requirements. Any tax implications depend on the specific donation and applicable rules.

Standalone disposal may be relevant if the RV cannot be purchased or you want it removed regardless of sale value. Ask that provider what the service includes, how transportation will be arranged, and what charges might apply.

RVRemovalUSA does not promise a separate free disposal service through its purchase inquiry.

Before handing over ownership or possession: Whatever route you choose, confirm the identity of the other party, the agreed terms, any outstanding conditions, the required title or ownership documents, and how payment will be verified.

Remove personal belongings and sensitive documents from the RV. Keep copies of the completed transaction records, and do not release the vehicle or signed ownership documents on the assumption that an unverified payment has cleared.

If you want to explore a direct sale, submit your RV for purchase review.

Alabama RV Selling Questions

Not always. Alabama generally exempts motor vehicles more than 35 model years old from the state’s certificate-of-title requirement.

For qualifying newer motor vehicles domiciled in Alabama and required to be registered there, a certificate of title is generally necessary.

A title exemption does not eliminate the need for valid ownership evidence. If the motorhome was titled in another state, check which records apply before arranging a sale. See ALDOR’s title requirements.

Start with the RV’s model year, type, and existing documentation.

Alabama generally requires titles for travel trailers and folding or collapsible camping trailers not more than 20 model years old. ALDOR also lists fifth-wheel campers among titled trailers, while separately listing bumper-pull trailers among exempt categories.

That makes classification important. Do not use the hitch style alone to decide which documents are required. The state’s title guidance is the starting point for checking an unusual trailer.

You can explain the problem in a purchase inquiry, but it may need to be resolved before ownership can transfer.

ALDOR allows a titled owner or recorded lienholder to request a replacement title through its Public Title Portal or a designated agent. The published replacement application fee is $15.

If the vehicle is financed or a lien remains on record, ask the lender what release or payoff documentation is required. Read the replacement-title instructions and lien-release guidance.

The answer depends on how the owners are listed.

Under Alabama’s published rules, two owners connected by “and” generally must both sign. When “or” connects the names, one owner may sign. ALDOR also addresses titles with no conjunction and those using “and/or.”

These rules apply to the relevant title documents and assignments, so check the actual record. Alabama does not generally require notarization of a title assignment, but every required signature and supporting document must still be valid. See ALDOR’s signature guidance.

No. ALDOR instructs the registrant to remove the plate when selling or otherwise disposing of a vehicle.

The registrant may be eligible to transfer that plate to a newly acquired vehicle, depending on the circumstances. Do not leave the plate attached simply because a buyer plans to register the motorhome later. Refer to ALDOR’s license plate instructions.

The general rule described by ALDOR concerns the new owner of a motor vehicle, who must obtain a license plate within 20 calendar days of acquisition, subject to the state’s applicable provisions.

It is not a universal requirement for every seller to submit a transfer notice within 20 days.

As the seller, focus on the correct ownership assignment, license plate removal, payment, and retention of transaction records. See ALDOR’s new-owner registration guidance.

Yes. Describe the known damage accurately when requesting a purchase review.

Useful details include whether water entered through the roof, whether the walls or floor are soft, whether wiring or appliances were affected, and whether the vehicle has an insurance total-loss or branded-title history.

An RV parked near Mobile Bay is not automatically storm-damaged, just as an inland camper is not automatically free of moisture problems. Known damage may affect whether a purchase is possible, but submitting an inquiry does not guarantee acceptance or rejection.

You can request a review, but explain the campground or storage arrangement before assuming the RV can be released.

Give the actual parking ZIP Code and identify any manager approval, gate access, outstanding fees, or checkout requirements.

For a large fifth wheel, mention whether the landing gear works, the tires are serviceable, and there is room for a suitable towing vehicle to approach. A purchase inquiry does not override campground rules or promise removal before a site deadline.

Yes. A non-running RV can be described for possible purchase consideration.

Explain the mechanical problem and whether it can roll, steer, brake, or connect safely to towing equipment, depending on the RV type. Also describe the property entrance, ground surface, slopes, obstructions, and available turning room.

Those details help assess the situation, but not every RV can be purchased or moved safely. Do not attempt unsafe transportation simply to prepare for an inquiry.

Yes, provided you accurately disclose the ownership and title circumstances.

For an inherited vehicle, Alabama may require probate documents or, for an eligible non-probated estate, a Next of Kin Affidavit and death certificate.

A salvage-title vehicle may have restrictions on registration and public-road operation, along with separate rebuilt-title procedures. A possible purchase cannot be completed without the necessary ownership authority and lawful transfer arrangements. See the deceased-owner transfer instructions and salvage vehicle requirements.
